    like scotland, mexico, catalonia or any other nation unlucky enough to be too close to a larger & more powerful nation, ukraine’s future is inextricably linked to russia’s for the foreseeable future.

    like most of those other nations have done at several times in history, they’re currently experiencing what happens when they entertain the nation of full independence, but it only serves irks the ire their richer neighbor and i hope they come out stronger for it; like the other nations have also been forced to become.

    maybe at one point, far into the future when the most power nations stop allowing the profit motive to dictate their behavior; nations like ukraine will be fully able to call their own shots.

      Thing is that it was never about independence, it was about the US overthrowing the government in Ukraine to put in a complaint regime that would sell off Ukraine’s resources to the west.

        fully agreed; there’s zero question that the ukranian people were american agitprop’ed into trying to join nato.

        i used indepdence here in the context of making choices that do not align with a nation’s more powerful neighbor’s desires.
