  • Im going to assume OnlyFans doesn’t do that because they want to. They’d likely be harassed by government if they didn’t.

Pornhub had to remove all unverified videos (which was most of their videos) and now anyone who uploads must follow similar rules that OnlyFans has. Pornhub posted an announcement saying they reported 118 instances of child abuse materials while Facebook reported 84,000,000 but that somehow they’re the ones being threatened to be shutdown unless they implement more rules.

  • Good on you for recognizing the difference and trying your best, but some people are just different. If you met a guy like your son somewhere else in your life, would you hang out with them? Probably not. The bond keeping you and your son together is that you’re family.

I don’t dislike my parents, but the only reason I talk to them is because they regularly invite me over for supper. If they didn’t do that we’d probably never talk. That seems to scare the hell out of them, so regular suppers is what they’ve decided on. I have a friend who is really into board games. His parents decided they’d have regular game nights where they get together to play one of his board games.

Your son will eventually become independent and you’ll need to have a reason to keep in touch. He’s probably not going to take up woodworking so you’ll have to find some other reason to get together.

Side note! I’m an anime k-pop guy and my father is a woodworking police officer. We don’t see current events or politics the same way, but we don’t argue! I’m not afraid to express my true thoughts to my father because I know he’s not going to get upset. If you do want to talk about your son’s interests with him, then do so with an open mind. Maybe he likes these things because he sees the world differently than you and he might not want to express himself if he’s worried you’ll argue.

  • You hear the one about the COBOL programer? In 1999 many people were worried about a bug with dates that could crash their systems. Unfortunately, a lot of really important systems were still using the outdated COBOL programing language. A search was done to find someone who could fix these systems. The last programmer who knew COBOL was found and they made a lot of money fixing up these systems. So much money that, once they received a cancer diagnosis, they cyrogenically froze themselves hoping that a cure for their disease would be found in the future. The programmer is awoken one day in a lab filled with high tech robotics. A person who is seemingly half machine themseves stands before them. The programmer asks “Have you found a cure for my disease?”. The person replies “We have cured all diseases. You are the COBOL programmer, correct?” “That’s right” “Great! It is the year 9999 and we have a problem we need your help with.”

  • Describing economic and political systems is tough because people have different interpretations of them and they can all be correct. Denmark and the US are both capitalist but their systems are incredibly different.

The simplest description that applies to all forms of communism but not to systems that aren’t communist, is that the means of production (typically defined as land and capital) are state owned (with the intention that their use is decided democratically by the public).

Other descriptions could also apply but they’re also not required. Like how a watch is still a watch whether or not it has a hand to indicate seconds.

  • Anyone who gives steam $100 can upload as many “games” any “game” they want. There is no quality control.

It’s a common scam to throw some free assets together to make “collect coin” and then swap the coin asset out with a stick and call it “collect stick” and then swap out the stick with a brick and call it “collect brick” then upload all of them to Steam and bundle them into a 50 game pack with a sale price of $100 (95% off!) and hope someone buys the collection thinking they’re getting 50 real games at a steep discount.

Here’s an example. It’s a 33 game bundle for 99% off its original price of $8,579! They’re all the same “game” with different free assets made by the same dev who uploaded 167 versions of this “game” to steam on March 28, 2024 and priced each around $200.

  • Thank you. It makes me lose hope for the future of humanity everytime I read comments saying we should remake the mistakes of our past. If we had nukes in 1914, the world would have ended because the Archduke of Austria was shot.

The Archduke of Austria, a title that doesn’t exist anymore, was the heir to rule Austria-Hungary, a country that doesn’t exist anymore. He was killed by a Bosnian because he didn’t like being a part of Austria-Hungary. Bosnia would later become a part of Yugoslavia, a country that doesn’t exist anymore. How many nukes would have been launched to save these meaningless titles and borders?

  • It might not be the engine. Some companies just don’t care much about optimization when they can just tell their players to buy better hardware.

Take GTA5 for example. It had a notoriously long load screen when starting up. Ranging from 2 minutes to 10 minutes depending on the read speeds of your storage drive. A modder ended up finding the problem. The code to load up the items in the game opened and read a file, but there was a bug that caused it to read through the entire file for each item loaded. The file was being read thousand of times. The modder changed one line of code and the loading time was reduced significantly. This was a bug that plagued GTA5 for years, caused by a single line of code, that the company didn’t fix because their fix was to buy better hardware.
