So many things about the site sound great on paper. Like Meta? Amazing! But they never listen. I remember when they took Interpersonal.SE off of the Hot Network Questions list over a damn tweet somebody made. Apparently random tweets get more attention than posts in their dedicated community discussion location.

And I still am angry about them dragging Monica through the mud.

And then none of the answers there answer what you’re asking. 🙄 Which like, if they did, the whole process might have been worth it.

I stopped asking questions there because I usually spend about twenty to thirty minutes writing them to make sure they’re clear and not duplicates. I take time to explain why they aren’t duplicates of similar questions. The I get downvoted and I get my question closed. Then the site tells me to do things and I do them but no one else knows what I’m talking about and I get mocked for not knowing how the site works. That community is toxic as fuck. Genuinely, users spend more effort and energy looking for reasons to not answer something than they do trying to make questions answerable. Heaven forbid anyone give a reason for any of this. Just gotta get their daily stats to rank up.

Seriously, the one thing SO could’ve had going for it in the wake of AI is the human aspect, but they haven’t fixed their community problems in years.

Yeah, I recently got licensed and have had an interest. Someone mentioned the movie Frequency and I saw the same thing in the trailer lol.

The best example I can think of, and this is being very generous to the AI bros, is that they’re trying to compare it to obsolete creative positions. Think about animation. Each frame used to have to be hand drawn and colored entirely by hand. There was a lot of heavy lifting going on in the process that weren’t necessarily creative but still required for the final product. I think they’re trying to say that we’ll need less work like this.

I’m not sure I agree or how accurate their claims are.

I recently got into amateur radio and the radio usage in Die Hard 1 is bonkers. They both talk at the same time a ton, it’s just all over the place.

Because finding dumb screens is actually difficult and smart TVs are cheaper.

If they can get the minus feature working it would be perfect. Like “-blah” should exclude “blah” but it doesn’t do anything.

This is all such bullshit. Like, for real. It’s been a common criticism of OpenAI that they over hype the capabilities of their products to seem scary to both oversell their abilities as well as over regulate would be competitors in the field, but this is so transparent. They should want something that is accurate (especially something that doesn’t intentionally lie). They’re now bragging (claiming) they have something that lies to “defend itself” 🙄. This is just such bullshit.

If OpenAI believes they have some sort of genuine proto AGI they shouldn’t be treating it like it’s less than human and laughing about how they tortured it. (And I don’t even mean that in a Rocko’s Basilisk way, that’s a dumb thought experiment and not worth losing sleep over. What if God was real and really hated whenever humans breathe and it caused God so much pain they decide to torture us if we breathe?? Oh no, ahh, I’m so scared of this dumb hypothetical I made.) If they don’t believe it is AGI, then it doesn’t have real feelings and it doesn’t matter if it’s “harmed” at all.

But hey, if I make something that runs away from me when I chase it, I can claim it’s fearful for it’s life and I’ve made a true synthetic form of life for sweet investor dollars.

There are real genuine concerns about AI, but this isn’t one of them. And I’m saying this after just finishing watching The Second Renaissance from The Animatrix (two part short film on the origin of the machines from The Matrix).

Does it need to be better? Can people just share things they find interesting or that they made?

If you have one on one meetings it might be a good opportunity to ask (depending on the circumstances the other manager told you the feedback).

If you want to leave, then it’s enough reason to leave, but I would strongly recommend finding a new job before quitting.

Yeah, the code of ethics thing shocked me as well, but it’s really important to remember that it’s not something they expect users to follow, it’s something the devs are saying they’ll follow. So it’s not too bad in my opinion.
