  • This is cool but I can’t help but feel slightly disappointed at the slow pace of research in this field. The cause of type 1 diabetes is well understood and we knew this treatment was possible for decades but it still took until now to finally make it happen. Gene therapy has the possibility of curing almost any disease, at least in theory, but the amount of time even simple treatments like this have taken to develop makes me feel we won’t live to see such advances.

  • Well, I think this is a bit of an exaggeration. Patriarchy is a pretty dominant social structure across many different cultures, not just European. There are exceptions, yes, but it seems far more common than it should be if that was purely coincidental. Based on my reading, patriarchy is strongly associated with the rise of agriculture and with patrilocal marriage and may not have existed prior to those institutions, but early human history has a very scant level of evidence remaining, unfortunately.

However, the relatively low sexual dimorphism in humans does suggest that early human societies were fairly egalitarian with respect to the sexes.

  • Are we using this term the same way? To me Bernie Bro is like a loud, obnoxious, misogynistic Bernie supporter, not just any old supporter. I used to think they were a myth but then I met them.

Most later went on to be huge trumpers so their support for Bernie was a shallow expression of anger that merely hitched itself to any convenient movement. So they were dead wrong all along.
