  • The worst thing is (was?) that you couldn’t even build the car without looking at a tutorial online. So many steps that are impossible to figure out on your own.

I like the game and spent a lot of time with it, but when I last played it half a year ago it still felt pretty unfinished.

Edit: looking at the changelog, it’s the first update in two years and they didnt really add anything new, apart from some bug fixes and a “feature” where you can die from a wasp in your house if you leave the doors open all the time. They won’t be adding any more features after this. How can they even call this 1.0.

  • I think so yes, it doesn’t stray too far from the original story but adds a lot on top of it and adds a lot of post game mechanics that I haven’t encountered yet. I had never played Crystal before (but I did play Silver and I think Crystal’s story is 90% same?) and it seems really polished (haha). It just feels like a much more modern game than what I remember Silver being.

I’m looking for a similar sort of ROM hack for Emerald since I never played gen 3 and later. I think I’ll go for Modern Emerald but I’d love to hear other suggestions.

  • I have gone down the same rabbit hole lately. I’ve been playing Polished Crystal and am planning to play Modern Emerald next.

Polished Crystal adds a ton of features and I love it. They added many Pokémon that you can all catch, it adds a lot of new moves and introduces the modern types and physical/special split which I prefer. It also seems like a lot more difficult than vanilla gen 2 with revised gym leader parties. I’d suggest playing the 9bit version which has almost a decade of new features added to the 2.2.0 version you usually find.

  • Yeah exactly. Also annoying things like “let’s change this concept that works by adding stuff that’s in fashion but doesn’t fit the game at all”. Like Battlefield 2042, the concept of Battlefield stayed relatively the same throughout years and releases and it just worked, but they just had to include heroes this time because hero shooters were popular. It doesn’t matter that it meant there were only doppelganger heroes running around instead of an actual army of soldiers.

I believe bullshit like this is exactly what made Suicide Squad such a let down.

  • I love Slay the Spire. It’s been a while since I played it on PC but nowadays I play it on my phone or tablet every now and then. I backed the Slay the Spire boardgame on Kickstarter that will be shipped some time soon and I can’t wait to try it out.

I think the max I got was Ascension 6, I’m not that good at deck builders I think. The Silent and Ironclad are my favourites and I play whatever fits my mood. Getting insane high block together body slam is just as much fun as getting insanely high poison stacks. I never once made it through act 4 sadly.

The music is also something I really enjoy, it fits the game so well! Sometimes I listen to it while driving or working.

  • I love this game so much. The video is very accurate but doesn’t mention that once you overcome the hurdles this game throws at you, you can become so damn powerful that your wand can shoot 50 nukes per second that each erase the entire world you are in which temporarily reduces your framerate to several seconds per frame.

Yet you’ll still die if you step into two pixels of the purple stuff and something shoots at you while you got turned into a flying sheep.
