  • As /u/comfy said, we already know enough. We know that cops can break encryption on your phone, get everything from your social media accounts with full cooperation of the site owners, they can track your phone even if it is off, they can track your payment methods for your ebike get away vehicle to the CVS you bought your prepaid card with cash at, they can track you with the thousands of cameras they have everywhere, they can use gait identification to ID you even if you have gloves on and a mask on, they can plaster your face all over the internet, use thermal vision drones to find you in some field.

The police are militarized and have their surveillance tentacles in every crack and crevices they can. We know this already, and there is no value that such a trial would provide for that.

  • Like, you know he’s not personally involved in the design or manufacture of these things right

Not everybody does. I’ve seen some threads, mostly on insta, where people were fallomg over themselves to get on their fucking knees to slob on Elon’s nob. I get that the average insta user isn’t the brightest, but people like that do exist.

And it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because there is a chance that the hard work of the engineers, laborers, and Shotwell will be used for Elon’s fame throughout history.

So yeah, fuck Elon. The tech is cool as fuck though.

  • This is exactly the thing I’ve been looking for. It saves everything as a sqlite db, and has csv export options. So you’re not fucked over if you need to switch to something else. It’s compatible for linux/windows.

And the import options seem pretty good too.

Congrats, you’ve made me spend the whole day switching everything over to that lol.

The only real issue is that one of my banks deals with more than one type of currency. So I’ve had to write a custom script to handle that. But all in all, this is a massive upgrade for me. Thank you for this recommendation.

  • People commonly burnout and run themselves ragged trying to make ends meet. I know I did.

If that’s the case, then it sounds like people aren’t getting paid. At least not a living, stable wage, which was sort of the implication.

And this may at least be in a very small part be a good thing, because it incentivises creators to switch to direct from creator purchases, which we’re both in agreement is preferable.

CEO wages and capitalism doesn’t seem to care.

It still does seem to hurt them though. Because if it didn’t in some way hurt them, then they wouldn’t give a fuck about piracy.

Sure, the CEOs and execs just pass off potential lost revenue to buying users, but they can only do that to an extent. At a certain point, people are gonna say “fuck it, I don’t care to pay $80/month for music, I’ll switch to something else”.

At a bare minimum, piracy is an ever present threat to their business model, that if they push too hard with prices, everybody is gonna ditch them for piracy. Because at the end of the day nobody has a pathological need for any particular media. And if someone really likes a particular type of media, they’ll find some other way to get it without getting price gouged.

    That’s the way forward.

I think we’re in full agreement of this section here. Fuck the current system.
