For me it’s the first thing i learned how to self host: Nextcloud …which in turn allows me to sync Joplin notes, which I use constantly

I’m also waaaay late but posting for those that might be interested. https://lemmy.ml/c/videos seems to be predominantly political type videos (warning: I dont watch them, they could be balanced/propaganda/rage bait/conspiratorial).
PS I’d also have voted to keep them separate.
I only witness it whenever any of my work colleagues anyone with a phone wants to show me a video. Always have to sit through ads before & during the video. Absolutely horrific. Mind you they also have to close multiple pop up ads in every app they ever use on their phone. I couldn’t live with it & not learn how to deal with it
OmsAnd can seem daunting for new users. I persevered because the map info is so detailed & it works offline. On a couple of occasions my family found ourselves in a new city in a foreign country in need of food etc & OsmAnd has had the info telling us exactly what we needed & where to go thanks to the dedicated community. It encouraged me to map my own city suburb in detail to help fellow travelers.
I also love its offline Wikipedia function.
If anyone is interested, even adding a park bench or litter bin helps & is quite simple with something like StreetComplete
For images, on Android you could use Imagepipe.
Once you’ve set it up, simply “share” the image to Imagepipe, it does its thing then automatically passes it on to whatever app you want - for example a messaging app for you to send on to others (it stores a copy of the image minus its metadata in an Imagepipe folder in your gallery for ease of access should you need it again).
For video, from memory I think mp3tag for Windows/Mac can remove metadata from some video formats
@HootinNHollerin@slrpnk.net I hate them too. Let DeArrow help you weed out the clickbait (from the dev behind SponsorBlock)
If you’re an Android, Kiwi Browser has an option to remove AMP (use direct website over AMP version)
My bank literally forces me to use their godforsaken shitty app but wherever possible I use web over app especially for corporations (eBay, Amazon, YouTube, catch up TV etc). Like you & others said, reduces exposure to data harvesting
This ain’t usually my scene at all but the part with the sax dude with the guitars being shredded is amazing! To be fair I enjoyed the whole thing, thanks for the link.
!asklemmy@lemmy.world is very active, though more question driven
Great machines, I use an NUC8i7 as our HTPC. Supports 4K 60fps. Got it hooked up to a Denon amp for Dolby Atmos. At some point i hope I’ll find time to look into Home Assistant, I’d use another NUC for running that.
I moved from Nextcloudpi some time back & found THIS TUTORIAL far & away the most useful. Instead of just saying copy/paste a Docker Compose file he shows how to build it step by step using Portainer so i found it invaluable for future projects.
It seems a bit overwhelming initially but once you’ve installed it a few times you’ll be able to do it from scratch in less than an hour. Probably less as it sounds like you already know what’s what having used Ansible
