I would argue someone making six figures getting 10% more will have a big impact still. Give everyone the benefit, even billionaires. Using your argument, the billionaire won’t care about getting an extra $1,000 - that’s nothing to them. But no one feels “cheated” because you arbitrarily put the limit, and you know no one else is cheating the system because there is no system to cheat!

Paying for universal programs would require changing our tax structure, which I’m also supportive of.

I’m pointing out there are legitimate places for a towel hook with hidden camera to be located. Something used for illegal activity is on the onus of the person performing the illegal act, not the manufacturer or distributor of the tool.

Often times the price is the same whether you’re using Credit Card or paying cash. That means the X% fees the business pays to credit card companies is built into the price of your purchase. I’d you’re not paying with a credit (and hence not getting cashback) you’re actually losing money / paying more.

No. The original comment said the “worst disaster made a very small she’s of the planet uninhabitable”. Keep in mind this disaster was the result of Soviet incompetence and completely avoidable with standards implemented in the US.

They’re saying our “worst case scenario” using nuclear power is better than worst case scenario continuing to use fossil fuels.

Likelihood of worse case scenario using nuclear power is also extremely low. Whereas worst case scenario (billions of people dying) for continuing to use fossil fuels is EXTREMELY HIGH.

By your logic I suggest you avoid any building constructed in the US as nothing would ever be safe enough.

That’s why there are lots of regulations for things impacting life safety. With a nuclear power plant, you mitigate the disaster potential by having so many more people involved in the design and inspection processes.

The risk of an electrician installing faulty wiring in your home could be mitigated by having a third party inspector review the work. Now do that 1000x over and your risk of “politicians are paid off” is negligible.

Is being a law enforcement officer a protected class?

Saying something like “I refuse to serve you in the basis of your race” is illegal because race is a protected class. Whereas “I refuse to serve you because your Lemmy hit-takes are dumb” is perfectly legal! Same as refusing to serve armed thugs masquerading as the good guys.

Don’t forget preventing needed military promotions leaving multiple branches without command and hurting our defense readiness!!!
