Fair point, the OP is a bit over the top. I agree, It’s not all religions.

I can point to multiple denominations of religious people that literally say that being gay or trans is forbidden, yet I can not find one Atheistic group that does the same. To act like religion doesn’t do it’s part in perpetuating this kind of hate is foolish.

I’m not saying all religion is bad or worthless or anything, just that it definitely contributes to this problem. I’m also not saying that all religions are the same, its mostly just the Abrahamic ones that seem to perpetuate the hate more than others.

They exist, but let’s not act like religion isn’t playing a huge role in the perpetuation of trans hate. If a person says that they dislike trans people, 9/10 times they are going to be religious. A lot of other cases will stem from a person coming from a religious family, or culture, if they aren’t religious themselves.

It’s not a requirement to hate gay and trans people to be an atheist, but it is a requirement to at least act like you do to be a member of many different religious denominations.

The OP was just playing with a new kind of fire (VSCodes Git/source control panel) that they didn’t understand, and they got burned.

We all gotta get burnt at least once, but it normally turns us into better devs in the end. I would bet money that this person uses source control now, as long as they are still coding.

It’s really weird to make a blanket statement like that because different people have very different salaries and expenses. Especially in reference to the US where these things heavily depend on the state a person resides in.

Now that I’m older, I realize that pulling the lever is the right thing to do as much as it hurts. I don’t think letting apathy win and watching the government go full Fash was the correct choice, but I don’t blame you, or others who decided the same. I kind of feel the same way. I think the economic theory behind communism/socialism sounds much more beneficial towards our progress as a species and towards a more sustainable existence. I just don’t agree with the authoritarian methods of implementation. I think that if socialism is going to succeed, it will need to come about in a gradual democratic way.

Thanks for pointing this out. To some people, advocates for things like socialized healthcare are ‘tankies’. Its hard to tell what people mean anymore by it, and one persons tankie might be another’s centrist at this point.

I did well in data structures and algorithms in uni, but I have never had those topics come up in my 4 years of being a software developer. I’m in web development, FWIW.

So you don’t really have to know that stuff, depending on what kind of software engineering that you get into.

I just wish they would address the US corporations doing the exact same thing, using algorithms to shape American public opinion.

It’s just hypocritical for them to go after TikTok for doing it, specifically, when Meta and Google are doing the same thing, and have been doing so for longer.

If they really cared about this negatively affecting US public opinion, they would make a blanket law about algorithm shaping and go after any corpo that breaks it. Sadly, that won’t happen, because the US corpos are in our politicians pockets.

There’d be no way to know anything even happened to you as long as your memory was copied over to the new address with the rest of you. It would be just a gap in time to us, like a dreamless sleep.

To add on to this, many people who do commit horrible acts against children aren’t pedophiles, in the sense that they are sexually attracted to children. Many of them are sexual sadists who are aroused by the act of inflicting pain and abuse, instead.

I see, I forgot it was a mod. Those are fair points for sure. I kind of like the pacing better in Half Life 1, myself.

Considering that Entropy Zero came out about 13 years after Half Life 2, I would hope it was better. It doesn’t really seem fair to compare the two. They were developed in different times, with different tech, and different games to draw inspiration from. That’s not to mention that Entropy Zero is a mod built on top of Half Life 2, and requires HL2s code to even run in the first place.

You sound like the kind of person who would just assume Hindu temples were made by Nazis because they contained swastikas. Just because some assholes used a symbol as a dogwhistle doesn’t mean that the rest of the world should stop using it.

At this point, I think some American politicians and policy makers are afraid of Cuba surpassing the US in living conditions if the embargo is dropped, and Cuba is given a fair shot. A thriving Cuba would serve as fodder for a leftward push in politics in the US, and I don’t think any of the lobbyists or their puppets want that, at all.

Not to mention that, given the average age of said politicians and policy makers, one can only assume many of their brains are heavily washed with the Red Scare era propaganda.
