This is a fantastic article! Today we saw how powerful #8 is when Mariann Edgar Budde asked Trump to be a decent human being.
- Stand out. Someone has to. It is easy to follow along. It can feel strange to do or say something different. But without that unease, there is no freedom. Remember Rosa Parks. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow.
That’s a really important point! I didn’t think of that but I know Snopes does that. I updated the post to mention your suggestion.
Twitter/X is horrible. I feel of all the large/mainstream (used to be mainstream) social media platforms it’s the worst. We don’t need to trust them to police themselves, reporting is now win-win because if they don’t take down the reprehensible content you can use the evidence you collected to persuade your friends to leave Twitter/X. If you are lucky and it’s the 1% of the time when they actually remove it that’s good too because you just got some hate taken down.
This is especially powerful for people in the EU, I don’t know how to do it but if their DSA reports don’t get acknowledged perhaps it would be possible to send the screenshots to someone in the EU or their countries government and they could fine Twitter/X for violating the DSA.
Thank you so much for finding that! It’s even more shocking than I thought. So many more instances already. I hope this prompts more people to delete their Twitter/X account.
The most important thing is to take care of your own health. I’d recommend pivoting sending encouraging messages to progressives. For example if there’s a content creator you like write a message saying you’re grateful for everything he/she does. You’ll feel good and whoever receives your message will feel good too.
Also campaign for issues you care about instead of being against issues you’re opposed to. This should result in less anxiety and stress. If that doesn’t work you got to focus on the anxiety and stress first before you focus on activism. The reason why is because once you solve the anxiety and stress you will be more powerful. I’ve read articles on resisting Trump and most say you must first focus on your personal health. https://wagingnonviolence.org/2024/11/10-things-to-do-if-trump-wins/
I agree totally, these instructions are only for those who for whatever reason feel they must stay on those platforms. Leaving is the better option.
I agree 100%. These instructions are only for people who for whatever reason feel they must still have an account. Leaving is much better if you can. If for whatever reason you feel you cannot leave I would highly recommend cross posting on Bluesky and Mastodon.
And it sure doesn’t help that Fox News is playing 24/7 on military bases.
I remember once randomly turning on CNN maybe 5 years or so ago. It was just people yelling at each other. Maybe I got unlucky but I don’t want to watch people angry at each other. Perhaps I picked a bad time and it’s not normally like that but what I saw was enough to turn me away.
It’s a fascist propaganda technique. The enemy is both strong and weak.
For sure people think differently. I agree when having a discussion with someone it’s important to learn how they think.
I must tell you I used to be on the right, I used to support Trump actually. Part of what made me more sympathetic to immigrants is meeting some and they told me their struggles and I gained empathy for their struggles and how difficult the system is.
They had a lot more in their playbook than just that. That’s why it’s different. Also I agree that it should happen every time regardless of who wins.
You’re right. I hope that maybe this could lead to a conversation about why putting people into camps is a bad idea. In my head I imagine starting a conversation with a conservative and they say why the FEMA camps are a bad idea then you could say how do you feel if you were put in one. Now ask how you’d think immigrants would feel when put in a camp. In reality things may not go how I imagine.
I’m still shocked by the people who protested Biden over Palestine. He got a ceasefire for Lebanon and worked hard to get aid to Gaza. Trump never would have done those things.
It’s a false equivalency. We’ll accept the results of a properly conducted audit. The other side is calling people and demanding that they “find” more votes.
I totally get what you mean! They think the cruelty is the point and it will never happen to me or my family/friends so I don’t care.
That’s very wise! I wish you safety and peace and hope the only thing you’ll ever need in that list is the passport to visit somewhere nice but if you do need those things I’m sure you’ll be very grateful for all the preparations you did ahead of time.
I felt that one! The more sane people we can get into office the better chances we have of survival and making it through another year. I’m really worried too but I’m going to do whatever I can to make things better.
He could try assembling an emergency team and also pressure Republicans and tell them what’s at stake. They could hold a special meeting.
Why I wrote it now: It started with the idea of bringing up things in your daily conversations you have that help make the world better which takes very little of your time but can spur good ideas and help advance good causes. Then I as I was thinking about what are some things one can say one of the things I realized is it’s important to ask everyone you know (who will care) about voting because Republicans are continuing to attack voting rights so we need to defend against that now by perhaps preparing documentation to pass whatever new legislation gets enacted. It’s a preemptive measure. Also I didn’t have an account here before the election. Of course if I had a time machine I would do everything I could to spread this message but I must focus on the future.
Also this for sure won’t be the last time I mention this. As local elections get closer I will try to bring this up again. I hope you’ll join me in reminding as many people as possible everywhere that it’s important to vote and to be prepared to vote ahead of time.
