Privacy and anonymity is definitely still a thing as long as you keep you business to yourself, because as I’m guessing you’re alluding to, people are pretty chatty as it is and a smaller population makes it more difficult. It also helps to not be an asshole and give people even more to talk about, especially when most everyone knows each other.

This was built for me by a buddy, the optic and stock I purchased after the fact. Yes the optic is overkill for this particular rifle, and will likely get transferred to my 30-06. My small town is very heavily armed, but is also way more moderate (purple) than anything. Sure we have our far right wingnuts, but they tend to be on the lower end of the intelligence spectrum in these parts. They tried forming a militia a while back, and most everyone in town just laughed at them. A lot of of us enjoy going shooting regularly (when it’s not freezing out), and I’m certainly not trying to take on the gravy seals by myself lol. My good buddies and I have contingency plans in place in case shit goes sideways in the worst of ways.

It’s also not hard to buy a gun, that’s just a bunch of baloney, even here in CA. Yes there are carry restrictions, and yes it’s more involved than other states, but buying one is not as difficult as people make it out to be.

It sounds like some employers/HR outfits are just grossly misinformed then. The I9 form directions are pretty clear in what is required and/or acceptable, and this documentation is only required for I9 purposes, other than a DL for a driving related job. Companies are not necessarily required to have copies of the I9 identity documents used on file, but it is good practice in case of an audit, which is why most companies do it (a CYA basically). In theory, if someone reports a company because they suspect they’re employing people unauthorized to work in the US, providing copies of the documents you used for the I9 verification shows that your did your due diligence and they’re more likely to leave you alone.

Pretty much every company I ever worked for took a copy of my passport, and I see no harm in that as long as their storage is reasonably secure.

When I onboard people, I’m required to see proof of identity and proof of authorization to work in the US, as well as make copies for INS audit purposes. A passport covers both of those requirements, but for people that do not have a passport, a DL and a social security card are the most common, followed by a DL and birth certificate. One is a photo ID from an official source, the other shows either US citizenship or something saying you’re allowed to work as a non citizen (aka a green card).

It’s somewhere in South Africa. And just in case, you have to be a citizen of the US by birth to be eligible for the presidency.

The difference there though is that those devices are point to point, not broadcast/receive. Iirc there are different rules in place for direct line of sight devices, and misuse will land you a meeting with the FCC, hence why the more powerful variants require a license.

But, the key takeaway there is that those portions of the spectrum where mobile bands are are restricted to those uses. 2.4 and 5 are “free bands,” in which any device can use them (assuming compliance with FCC part 15 in the US). If I built a device and operated it at say 4.3GHz, I’d get in big trouble once found.

Yeesh, yeah that sounds about right haha. Normally I have a stomach of steel and can do even the craziest coasters, but those AR rides throw my equilibrium out the window. That and that spinning spaceship at the county fairs. Big nope.

I went to Universal Hollywood about a month ago for the first time in probably 20 years and I’ll be honest, most of their newer 3D experience rides make my stomach do backflips, and most of them have some 3D element these days (including the studio tour). Maybe I’m getting old, but I’d much rather have a good old fashioned roller coaster any day.

So that when the oligarchs assume full unchecked control of the US, no one will lift a finger to help the rest of us.

I dunno, BB was an outlier for me in that it kept getting better. We’re there some crap filler episodes? Of course. Did the story wander a bit? Sure. But I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

It’s also worth noting that many of these shows from the traditional TV days were a once a week affair and weren’t intended to be binged. It was a different way of watching back then.

I paid for the lifetime pass maybe, 10 years ago? I dunno, it’s been a very long time. It’s still my primary. I’ve been trialing Jellyfin, but there are still enough quirks that my wife (non-techie at all) won’t put up with, so yeah. That, and Plex makes it too easy to share outside my house, not sure where Jellyfin is at with it. I appreciate Jellyfin for what it is though, it has a lot of potential.

Yeah, old 4chan was definitely something. You had some of the absolute funniest shitposting imaginable, right next to some shit that no amount of eye bleach and showers could cleanse you of. Like, it was fun every once in a while for shits and giggles, but it started messing with your psyche after even an hour. The casual racism alone was in no way ironic. And So. Much. CP; to the point where most of the images aren’t even worth a glance because there’s a good chance it’s underage revenge porn. I genuinely don’t know how that site is still up.

Nowadays it’s pretty damn tame, at least compared to how it used to be. And the wicked thing is, there are people who legit live on there, as in it’s damn near all they do with their lives, both then and now. I’ll go peek in every few months for a nostalgia trip, but I’m out after 10 min on average, it’s still toxic as hell.
