  • The only really damning ones i see are the duplicate face and the three fingers, and i actually think both are not signs of AI. With the 3 fingers, it looks like his index finger might be perched on the other side of the flagpole out of view, like some people hold a pencil. With the duplicate face, that seems much more like a human error. A graphic artist filling in the background got lazy. The whole thing does have a kind of fultered overproduced look that reminds me of some AI stuff, but I don’t see anything conclusive, and a lot of the examples pointed out below are definitely baseless.

  • Just to note, in a few years theres a convergence of when the major union contracts are up for renegotiation, so they’re already planning for a general strike. So it sucks having to wait until may 2028, but do what you can to get as many unions off the ground and onboard in the meantime. Getting any new unions going would probably be the most impactful thing you could do regardless of if there is a general strike, as it increases the negotiating power, and anyone not in a union is in a really difficult position if and when a strike does happen.

  • No its true actually. Vladimir (the impaler) Putin and President Xi got together and had a secret meeting all about how Wikipedia is the greatest threat to their total dictatorship of Earth, because its the only thing keeping the American citizens so free and open minded and a place where people can go to learn about forbidden topics like Tank Girl and Winnie the Pooh. Putin got mad because he read the article about Grizzly bears and it said he’d probably die if he tried to wrestle one, so he spun up his special government botnet from his elite hacker force and activated his army of Tankie sleeper agents on Lemmy to make an attack on the Freedom of Information Act (thats a special law that Biden made to try to protect wikipedia and keep free speech safe).

this is a joke about foreign influence on Lemmy, not about Wikipedia itself. I like wikipedia

  • Except this logic only works if only a small percentage of homes are owned by landlords, but thats not the case because of the financial incentive. Say there are 100 people living in an area. Maybe 10 of them would prefer short term housing for whatever reason and dont want to own a house. 40 of them would love to own a house but cant, because 50 people all own 2 houses each. Now those 50 people can claim theyre ‘providing a aervice’ by making sure theres short term housing for those 10, but the people being forced to pay rent and never building equity aren’t going to see it that way. Our society has many more people that would love to own a home than it does people who prefer to rent

  • Get an air mouse remote. Theyre like 20 bucks on amazon and you just point the remote at the screen to control the mouse cursor. Mine also has media controls on one side and a full keyboard on the other, and only one set of buttons works at a tim3 based on which side is pointing up so you dont have accidental button presses. It makes it way more functional if you want to do even casual web browsing and the media controls are great for htpc apps. You can also use in browser streaming services this way too though. Honestly one of my favourite peripheral devices that ive ever bought, and super cheap and works way better than i wouldve thought for the price.

  • This is such a bad faith comment. Im not a hexbear user but my instance is federated with them and ive interacted with lots of their posts. Go into any post on hexbear and youll see tons of examples of them disagreeing WITH EACHOTHER. they commonly have huge arguments in the comments and as long as everyone is civil and not arguing in bad faith noone gets banned and noone gets urt feelings. Stop lying and using hexbear as the lemmy boogeyman because its a bad look.
