I dont even particularly care about lossless codecs, I was fine with 320kb/s mp3 as it was more convenient but even their mp3 rips were way better than other places, and you knew everything would be tagged and sorted correctly. Except this logic only works if only a small percentage of homes are owned by landlords, but thats not the case because of the financial incentive. Say there are 100 people living in an area. Maybe 10 of them would prefer short term housing for whatever reason and dont want to own a house. 40 of them would love to own a house but cant, because 50 people all own 2 houses each. Now those 50 people can claim theyre ‘providing a aervice’ by making sure theres short term housing for those 10, but the people being forced to pay rent and never building equity aren’t going to see it that way. Our society has many more people that would love to own a home than it does people who prefer to rent

Get an air mouse remote. Theyre like 20 bucks on amazon and you just point the remote at the screen to control the mouse cursor. Mine also has media controls on one side and a full keyboard on the other, and only one set of buttons works at a tim3 based on which side is pointing up so you dont have accidental button presses. It makes it way more functional if you want to do even casual web browsing and the media controls are great for htpc apps. You can also use in browser streaming services this way too though. Honestly one of my favourite peripheral devices that ive ever bought, and super cheap and works way better than i wouldve thought for the price.

This is such a bad faith comment. Im not a hexbear user but my instance is federated with them and ive interacted with lots of their posts. Go into any post on hexbear and youll see tons of examples of them disagreeing WITH EACHOTHER. they commonly have huge arguments in the comments and as long as everyone is civil and not arguing in bad faith noone gets banned and noone gets urt feelings. Stop lying and using hexbear as the lemmy boogeyman because its a bad look.

Dictation in some cases sure, but it’s not really secure if you’re around people, and could also get weird talking to air all the time. I think if ar/wearable screens really want to take off were going to need an entirely new input method. Typing on a virtual keyboard is just so impractical, especially if you’re say on a train or something. I think it’ll be something like what I described, a lightweight wearable glove or fingertip sensor or something, and you input based on fingertip taps. You can keep your hands down by your sides while typing, don’t have to flail about in the air just to quickly google something or answer the text that popped up on your glasses. Or a physical little keypad that can slip in your pocket, but with few enough buttons that you can type without having to look at it, like t9 texting.

Oh yeah, I meant eventually, not with this device. I doubt this will take off honestly, the tech is too new and bulky and expensive still. If virtual environments ever do become prolific though, I doubt we’ll still use a visual representation if a keyboard at all, what would be the point.

I can imagine a return to some sort of t9 style typing where you could wear a thin sensor on your finger tips then tap certain fingers a certain number of times to enter specific characters. People who were used to typing with t9 could do it very quickly and without looking.

I’ve been using a $20 air remote off Amazon for years now. The tracking is honestly incredible and the device is built like an old Nokia phone. I’ve launched it off the bed or couch hundreds of times, even had the plastic casing bust open, but when I clicked it back together it still works good as new, and it’s even good enough to play simple point and click/mousepowered games on the TV. The front is all media/TV controls and the back is a full keyboard, with a toggled backlight. It’s honestly so much better than any of the media center remotes I’ve used including the apple tv one or the firestick one.

Well it says that many companies are spending extremely low amounts, like $10 on ads. So I assume musk has just been giving away ad space to try to keep those accounts open for as long as possible.

I don’t remember much of angel but in supernatural it’s eldritch creatures posing as billionaires to control and dumb down humanity to use them as a perpetual food source. Actually pretty deep and prescient for an older show.
