That’s insurance. The “profit” goal is not to rent seek or enrich themselves. And in this market it’s a risky gamble, anyways.

If the so called profit is intended to be entirely consumed to take care of moving or retiring, it’s insurance to allow you to move or retire; it’s not profit you add to your income. It’s not even properly described as “profit” since it’s, by definition, unrealized gains.

These are not circumstances where you “cash out” and buy something fancy, or even pay your day to day bills. Context matters.

The context here is quite different; in other words, you got an apples vs oranges issue here. A single home owner does not expect to profit from that investment; the increase in value is more of an insurance than anything (mortgages are taken out to cover emergencies, or the increase in value provides the means to move to a new home, etc). So, again, the context is extremely different.

Besides, if the expected inflation in value were the issue, shouldn’t I expect increased wages to make up the difference? I.e. no, that would not contribute to making the housing market too expensive for the average person to find accessible.

When Obama was president, abortion had been legal for like forty years. And, although I wish it had done more, the ACA was and is a very important piece of legislation. But, it was obvious they should’ve instead focused on fixing something that, at that time, wasn’t broken? Yeah, no.

Most of the time, the fare thru collect is nowhere near enough to pay for the service they offer. However, partially because is capitalism, they can’t give the service to for free because, well, reasons.

The fare is useful to track how many ride different lines at different times of day stuff like that. Plus, it gives a way to count how many people use the service for the purpose of getting grants and whatnot - which is what actually funds the bus service.

So, if the driver is in a hurry for any reason, he’ll often give you a free ride…cause actually paying the fare is, well, kinda for appearances, really…

I’ve always figured a company will go public before enshitification truly gets underway. It’s kinda the first step of the process.

I guess my argument is that until that pressure to appease the stockholders exists, there’s not a whole lot of motive to justify enshitification. It’s hard for me to imagine the process happening any other way.

So, I suppose you can count my vote as being that going public will likely come first. Just my two cents, though, and I don’t know anything anyway! :-p

I’m a little bit confused by your post. Publicly-traded companies, by and large, place extraordinary emphasis on short term, quarter by quarter profit. Seems like a very strong contender for the root cause if the issue?
