Confirmed: they’re all just saying ‘Good Night’ to each other like the end of a “The Waltons” episode. It’s very wholesome.
Minor edit to move ‘Sex Meme Pit’ up a few places - it’s swapped back again from a NSFW to SFW community, and the list was only showing its growth as a SFW one. I’m guessing that the Mod is going for ‘SFW community with the more egregious posts NSFW’d out’ approach.
No post yesterday, and some communities are possibly missing from today. Lemmyverse.net wasn’t able to update - the dev has said it was due to issues with lemmy.world’s API responses.
“Grenoble” is mostly in French, btw. So if you click, you’ll probably only see the 2 or 3 posts that aren’t tagged ‘François’ (depending on how you’ve set your profile up). This is how things should be, I guess.
Data is over for 18 hours (rather than 24) because LemmyVerse hasn’t updated in 17 hours (it normally updates every 6-12 hours), and the day (for me) will be over in a bit.
nosleep at lemmyworld? That’s only got 5 posts from a month ago, so someone will have to get their finger out.
I wrote a function that sent a post to the top community in New Entries, but then changed my mind about using it. That was for everyday though, so I thought it might get intrusive. I’ll re-think it when a month comes up - it’s difficult to know how users feel about bots.
Does the community need to be older than 7 days?
It does, yes.
I discovered eXoLite from your Community, btw. It’s amazing, so thank you.
It’s up now. It was feddit.nl’s turn to fall over today. Sorry if you asked me this ages ago (I’m only just seeing it for the same reason)
Cassian Andor’s on here!
Okay bot, you can put me down now
I spent some time being “funny” at shittymoviedetails yesterday, which illustrated 2 things to me today:
Creating Content is a good trick for driving up subscribers (18% in one day, so the 4.22% average demonstrates how in the doldrums it was)
Visiting it from a instance from which nobody had subscribed showed me all the posts, but not of the lovely upvotes and comments. So things may appear deader-than-are if you’re the first person from your instance clicking on one of these links.
I like the idea that these reviewers all had the concept for a perfect Barbie movie, and are then criticising this one for not living up to it.
I think that - like most people - when I heard that Gerwig was making a movie out of Barbie, I thought: how the hell is she going to do that?
I’ve been thinking along the same lines. The bot will catch up on its own missing data in a couple of days - so it’s won’t need to do the “over 7 days / over 6 days” biz. When everything is for over 7 days, I’ll start putting new entries at the top (with maybe just a single line, for previously mentioned stuff)
Thanks for the suggestion - I’ll give it a try. There’s so many Communities (about 20k) and they don’t change that often, so it’s difficult to know what the best metrics are. Only really to try something new and see whether it produces something interesting. So I’ll continue experimenting.
This is the response for a community:
{ "baseurl": "lemmy.world", "url": "https://lemmy.world/c/starwarsmemes", "name": "starwarsmemes", "title": "Star Wars Memes", "desc": "Hello there. Somehow, Star Wars memes have returned. It's not a trap, this is where the fun begins.\n\nTechnical note: if you're coming from another star system and are getting a \"Subscription pending\" message when trying to dock, that's just the console being slow to display the right message. The connection is already established. To give you an idea of which information is / isn’t available (I don’t know why I thought the description wasn’t in there)
The other “trending” lists work off “users_active_week” I think, but - for me - seem as likely to link me to something inactive/empty. Post today vs. posts yesterday would be doable (but I’d probably rather read one interesting post in ‘hobbydrama’ over then posts from ‘risa’)
Adding descriptions would be complicated tbh: some are massive (so it’s difficult to know where to cut off), the JSON from lemmyverse.net doesn’t include them, and I’d have to make a new decision about how many Communities to include (this post would probably be unmanageable if it was full of descriptions too)
The metric used (subscriber growth) doesn’t account for if there’s actually much of anything there, but I like that these lists highlight new stuff that people might be interested in, rather than ones that people probably already know about.
The new posts (from today onwards) include the subscriber count in them.
No, it gets its data from Lemmyverse.net, so it covers everything. Feddit.nl just happens to be where me and the bot are signed up at. Good luck with your Community!
I replied to Blaze in another thread, essentially saying that !trendingcommunities@endlesstalk.org is currently a backup / potential replacement for this community (depending how things go with feddit.nl)
