  • Most news organizations either are paid by the government or by some corporate stockholders (usually the rich).

It’s difficult to find unbiased news sources. There are some smaller ones, which are paid by private donations, but they often have inferior quality due to … appealing mostly to 18-y/o women who want “to make a change” and stuff (my opinion)

long story short, finding factual news sources is extremely difficult and i’ve basically given up on it. i can study physics to understand what is plausible and what is not, but i have no way to decide whether reporting on far-away events is biased or how much.

  • I think the reason is that most real numbers are gonna be the result of measurement equipment (for example camera/brightness sensor, or analog audio input). As such , these values are naturally real (analog) values, but they aren’t fractions. Think of the vast amount of data in video, image and audio files. They typically make up a largest part of the broadband internet usage. As such, their efficient handling is especially important, or you’re gonna mess up a lot of processing power.

Since these (and other) values are typically real values, they are represented by IEEE-754 floats, instead of fractions.

  • Actually, you can consider RGB values to be (triplets of) floats, too.

Typically, one pixel takes up up to 32 bits of space, encoding Red, Green, Blue, and sometimes Alpha (opacity) values. That makes approximately 8 bits per color channel.

Since each color can be a value between 0.0 (color is off) and 1.0 (color is on), that means every color channel is effectively a 8-bit float.

  • Look i know exactly nothing about your circumstances, where you live or what options you have.

It is important that you turn your hate or sadness into something productive. This way, you can sharpen your skills with a practical task, while also improving the world. You might also get to know other nice people who are like you.

In your example, I would recommend advocating against parental rights. “Parental rights” means that parents can control their children, and if the parents fuck up, the child can do nothing to escape the situation or seek relief. It is important that children have the option to run away from home, if they’re being mistreated, and seek somebody else who they want to live with. That would help children choose their own future.

In today’s society, such a thing is forbidden. The one taking in the child would be charged with “child abductance” and the child would be shamed for running away from their parents. Parental rights effectively mean that parents can force their children into inconvenient situations and the child can’t do anything about it and must comply. That is why I am against parental rights. I hope you can join me in that endeavour to bring about that change :-)

  • I’m not in healthcare either and I totally see your point.

But, i guess, the situation is complicated. What do you do with a 7 year old child who doesn’t want to go to school? Send them anyways, probably, tell them they have to because it’s good for them. Now, why do parents behave that way? Because they assume the child doesn’t understand the full implications of their choices.

With patients it’s a bit similar. Sure you can tell them they’re going to die if they refuse medication, but will they really understand the depthness of that? Probably they can’t even imagine it, idk. Could you imagine your own death? I guess for a lot of people that’s just a difficult thing to imagine, possibly also because monkey brain conveniently completely has a blind spot for that option (remember people driving recklessly, for an example).

So, you have to estimate: Does the person really fully understand what’s happening, or are they just brushing it off as an “yes the doctor wants to scare me to give more expensive treatment, extracting money out of me” thingy. You can’t assume all patients have studied medicine and understand the deep connections. Does the person really know what they’re talking about, or are they only looking at things at a superficial level?
