It’s definitely more federal than something like our roads. Fair Housing is a civil rights era law that is federal, and HOPA is a modification to those older laws. I don’t know how a state would break that, or if it’s reasonably possible.

All I meant by the white neighborhood thing is to say that contradictions in laws only matter if you challenge them, and it’s unlikely people will want to “fix” this law when it’s aimed at helping old people, especially ones who are sick or close to death.

There’s a law called HOPA that says it’s legal. You can have white only neighborhoods if you have the laws, until someone challenges them, changes them, etc. There’s a specific allowance for old people and nobody wants to take it away enough to have changed it.

It isn’t a literal belief. Democrats reduce abortions, much better than cons. Being anti abortion should mean voting for Democrats… IF you were still taking things literally. It’s not misinformation or lack of education, it’s misaligned priorities.

They’re just trying to be a tribe and signal allegiance. To have literal beliefs that you live by regardless of “your side” is a completely different game to what they’re playing.

Wow, and I consider steam to be utter trash. It uses more resources than the games I want to play. A web browsing engine, in the software that’s the only way to launch the game you paid for, just to show bargain bin shit. But I’m not interested in that, I just want to have a place to shop, and then the ability to use the things I bought. I don’t want to drive to Walmart to play the music I bought, I don’t want my computer to load Walmart just so I can play a game. It’s crazy how bad Steam has become.

There are tracing programs that let you see when a program makes system calls to read and write files, control hardware, etc. It might be easiest to run it and see what it does in a VM sandbox. Process Monitor looks like a strace equivalent on windows.

I don’t see a negative. It’s foss so you ought to be relaxed about others using your code. The issues are probably just articulating problems that were already there. If it’s stuff you don’t care about… it’s a foss repository so you just ignore it.

I don’t think in terms of optics. I don’t care if it seems degrading or feels degrading. My philosophical and moral axioms are more about results, cause and effect, reality, etc.

Go to a homeless shelter. Or try dealing with children. There’s a time and place for uplifting people, but you also have to pay attention to what’s real. Think about the mental state of the person in that point in time. Learn to prioritize. Forcing a stubborn person to take pills is better than childishly clinging to ideas about personal autonomy.

I guess if you have very little life experience, don’t understand people, and haven’t developed a comprehensive, holistic perspective of humanity, then I could see how this would be a dilemma for someone.
