For that, the PC has to be on. I’m using that as well, but that’s not really what i want it to do in this case. For example…i get a an invoice in the mail, i open the mail and the Epson is in the hallway downstairs, right next to the main door. I put an ASN/Barcode on the original document concerning the user paperpless should file that document under, scan the document and put it in the loose filing bin…etc. Basically, i do not want to have to use the PC.

Basically trickery with alleged lossless, but it is not even close to lossless and you need very special players that can unfold MQA. Tidal got a lot of criticism for it and eventually switched away to FLAC…but the way they handled it was pretty bad and it still brushes me the wrong way.
I rather pay for the enshitification of Qobuz, than pay those crooks at Tidal any money. That MQA shit is still very deep and practically enshrined in my soul…
Yes, I did. But I couldn’t get my Homeassistant to work routing through it, so I switched back to Proxy Manager…
Basically, all of those https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/faq/article/nas-recovery-guide-for-x86-based-nas There are some older models that can only boot from the DOM, however most newer ones (especially the AMD Ryzen ones, which i personally would highly recommend) have no issue. The early TS-X77 models do not boot from NVME, but that can be overcome with some creativity :)
You could do all that, yes - but that’s not really “replacing” a Synology IMHO. The point is that you don’t really have to think about putting it all together correctly - put the drives in, install your OS of choice and that’s it.
I’ve had a look and sadly, they are not available in Europe (at least for any reasonable price).
Does this have a backplane?
Get an x86 Qnap and put Truenas Scale on it - there is no case in that form factor in existence.

Do it anyway and put an x86 OS on one of the “standard UEFI” versions. There’s no other Hardware better on the market for this - even self build isn’t going to come close, there’s simply no case with 8 hotswap slots (for example).
QNAP x86, standard uefi! Can run anything. Been running mine with Proxmox, ZFS, Runtipi and others. Easy GUI setup for everything, Runtipi is just clicking add for various things.
On one hand, I really, really want those idiots in the Kremel to cause a Kessler Syndrome…(In theory it could also prevent ballistic missiles)
On the other hand, that would be quite bad for the rest of us.
GDP is not the only measure of the economy. In fact it’s a really bad one
I agree - which makes the rest of the numbers very odd, because most companies posted a substantial plus for 2023.
FFS, recession is not a fact. Stop with that Bullshit. Yes, growth is down to 0,2% - that’s not good, but it isn’t a recession!
Edit: To all the downvotes: You realize a recession is defined as “Not growing”? Meaning a 0,2% growth is still growth?
and the market will be flooded.
China will figure this out.
Nope. China won’t figured it out and will only be able to do semiconductors that trail behind a lot for a very long time. The smallest node that actually works for them is 16 nm, SMIC’s 7 nm in the new Kirin 9000S Chip is not even close, especially compared to the Krin 9000 wich is made with TSMCs 5nm node. Performance and Efficiency are up to 45% behind TSMCs stuff (Which is not something that can be explained away with just because of the smaller node).
But that’s not all: The way SMIC manufactures these chips is extremely expensive, due to the fact that they have to use multi-patterning. This also effects yields significant. They have no chance to compete on the open market against Samsung, Intel and TSMC, even with the high subsidies from the Chinese government. Also, while the way they are being produced allows for 6 nm, the gate length and contact width are going to reduce yield even more.
So they simply can’t flood the market.
Better than shrinking - which would actually be a recession.
The Eurozone slipped in to recession because of COVID AND the war. Not only that: Ukraine was a big shadow player in the subcontractor field. Not only that: Most European countries are already out of their recession, only Germany is struggling right now and that’s also mostly because as a country relying on export, it was hurt the most. However, the growth is still around the 0,2 in the plus, so no recession either.
Didn’t know that exists, that’s pretty neat! However, not really what i’m looking for in this case, because i don’t want to use a device other than the printer itself. With scan to folder, you just set the MFP to scan something to an FTP, SMB or whatever folder. The ET-4850 unfortunately doesn’t support that, so i’m looking for an alternative…i could just run a Windows VM on my Proxmox and let that do the “Scan-To” stuff, but that’s pretty resource intensive… But the more i look in to it, it seems there is no solution (except a Windows VM) for this, as SANE only “speaks to the MFP” and the MFP can’t talk to SANE via WSD…
