Not really. My country’s legal system, at least, foresees that someone may be mistakenly declared dead and so provides in the Todeserklärungsgesetz (§ 24):

(1)Wenn der für tot Erklärte persönlich vor Gericht erscheint und die Aufhebung der Todeserklärung verlangt, so hat das Gericht, falls die Identität des Antragstellers mit dem für tot Erklärten unzweifelhaft feststeht, ohne weiteres Verfahren die Aufhebung der Todeserklärung auszusprechen.

which translates to:

If the person who has been declared dead appears personally in front of a court and demands the cancellation of the declaration of death, then the court has to, if there is no doubt as to the identity of the applicant with the person who has been declared dead, without further procedure declare the annulment of the declaration of death.

As I wrote, try looking for a piefed, mbin or friendica instance you like.

You are registered on a Lemmy instance and from those you can only follow communities (that are structured the way Lemmy communities are, but the backend doesn’t need to actually be Lemmy), not people. Mastodon, PeerTube etc. are places where people post to their own profiles, so you can’t follow those from Lemmy, you need to create an account on e.g. Mastodon to do that. You can combine both worlds with some backends (piefed, mbin, friendica).

Can this be explained by the fact that the Internet already has satisfactory answers to more and more questions, so there is less need to actively ask new ones?

The main thing is, an RX100M3 can zoom (optically) to any arbitrary angle within its range. The vast majority of phones cannot do that, all they can do is switch between cameras and zoom digitally (= cropping).

There are areas of photography where that is important, but I am not sure yours is one of them; for “selfies with your girlfriend or friends or family” you probably want a wide angle similar to the default one on most phone cameras anyway? If that is so, stick with your phone.

Some even brew beer from it. (I tried it on an AIDA cruise ship, it doesn’t taste any different from any other beer.)

I followed my city’s feed so that I am regularly reminded of the weather and don’t have to actively check a source for it. Let’s see how long I follow it.

Most people live at least somewhere near a city that doesn’t usually get radically different weather than where they do live.

Here is what I (think I) know:

• It is possible to follow Lemmy users on Mastodon, which gives you threads they start in your feed, but not comments they make (I have not really tested this, but this is what I remember reading).
• It is possible to follow Lemmy communities on Mastodon, which makes those communities appear as bots that share everything (posts, comments) posted to them (I have done this accidentally before, not realizing that an account I was following was actually a Lemmy community, then wondering why it was only boosting Lemmy posts until I figured it out).
• It is possible to post to Lemmy communities from Mastodon. I don’t know how exactly, but !kde@lemmy.kde.social is a community that gets a lot of posts like that, e.g. https://discuss.tchncs.de/post/27370850?scrollToComments=true - looks like they simply tagged the community? I am not sure how this works and have never done this.
• If you are seeing a Lemmy thread or comment on Mastodon through one of the above methods, you can reply to it; you can usually tell when someone is doing that when they put @ links to the people above them in the thread into their posts. How long is a piece of string? Depends entirely on the specific case. For example, if you’re murdered in front of witnesses, the answer will be very different than if you simply disappear mysteriously without anyone finding your body.

For me it is in the same window by default. It seems you can change it by clicking the three-dot menu and selecting which side you want to add it to. I am attaching a screenshot (my UI is in German, so the labels will be different if yours isn’t).
