  • I think I loved about a dozen women relatively recently tho I haven’t even kissed them

Romantic love is always both ways. Crushes are normal and healthy, but no matter how strongly you feel, it ain’t nothing like when they wanna kiss you back.

When I was young I had anxiety about getting betrayed or abandoned. Well, all that came to pass, but what I didn’t know then was that I am perfectly capable of hurting people who care about me. These days, I regret the harm I did way more than what I suffered.

  • The best way to burn off bad faith is to ask them to affirm their standard: “so you think it’s dishonest to intuit intention when you have no proof”? and if they’re stupid enough to claim they believe that, hit them with something like:

“What do you mean video games have a woke agenda? You can’t know the intentions of game designers”. “How do you know that the media is biased against Trump”? “You can’t read their minds”.

EDIT: My point is that debate should cut straight to a question of values, not argument. Talking about values (which cannot be disputed or proven with “facts and logic”), divides good and bad faith like a lightsabre.

  • If you pay attention to the reactionaries, they always steal ideas from the left. Fake news, media bias? That’s Noam Chomsky. Incels stole the idea of critical examination of gender from feminists. Racists are banning books on the theory that they target people based on their race.

That’s why they’re called reactionaries. They cannot organize and ideology or a movement except as an opposition to the left dragging society forward. And like anyone motivated by spite and envy, they study us closely.

  • This can be confusing. Should I stop reading the WaPo? Well, I already don’t subscribe, jump the paywall, and block ads. Me using the site hurts him more than if i didn’t. Same thing with the Smart Speakers. Amazon has lost (IIRC) like 12B on that venture, and so long as you don’t use it to order stuff, it’s costs Bozo for a person to use it.

  • What you have to understand is that Lemmy is full of tech people who are bombarded with “AI is the future” messaging all day long. And implicit in all of that is layoffs for tech workers and enshitification for everyone else.

Seeing a reaction without context is always going to look irrational. People know that AI has it’s uses and can even be pretty neat. But what it’s being sold as is a gigantic lie that’s going to hurt people.

  • I thought this video was going to be “old man yells at cloud”, but it made me think about some posts I’ve seen on Lemmy. You know the ones I mean, people who are new and asking about how to tailor the experience to their own tastes, usually political tastes.

I always thought it was silly to expect the internet to put bespoke content in front of you with minimal effort. But maybe I’m just behind the times. Why wouldn’t you expect the platform to track your behavior and promote what it recons will keep you scrolling? That’s what’s normal I guess.
